Kokkari

200 Jackson St, SF

Was mildly disappointing after I had heard such wonderful things about it. I give Kokkari 3.5 stars-- atmosphere was very cozy, and food was hearty. Too bad the appetizers came in such small portions!

Stand outs from the meal:
Fried zucchini cakes (2/order) were devoured within seconds of touching the table (pictured on L).
Goat stew-- apparently what Kokkari is known for-- was quite good, but reminded me of Indian curries that I can get for much cheaper (pictured on R).
Moussaka was one of my favorites, but I don't think you can go wrong layering eggplant, beef, and mashed potatoes. Yum.
Dessert was nice, they had a summer berry bread pudding option that was very light and refreshing. The flourless chocolate cake was standard; nothing to write home about, and we (a group of 8 girls) didn't even finish it. We also ordered a rice pudding which was very meh.

Will I return? Probably not. There is a sister restaurant in Palo Alto (Evvia Estiatorio) that I'd probably go to instead, just because it is closer. But if someone were to suggest Kokkari for their birthday, then sure, I'll eat with no complaints.
